Camp Barrett
Hosts Over 950

Elks Camp Barrett hosted over [950+] Boy Scouts the weekend of November 10-12, 2017. Boy Scouts from the Mid-Atlantic States and beyond descended upon the camp's [140+] acre rustic camping facility among high trees and deep ravines located within minutes of downtown Annapolis.

Friday, the Boys Scouts arrived and setup their tents for the weekend on numerous wooded sites and the athletic fields. A light dinner was made available.
A cold front came through and dropped the temperatures.

On Saturday, after an early morning continental breakfast served by the Elks, the Scouts traveled to the US Naval Academy for a guided tour of the yard. Thereafter, the ELKS served a tailgate lunch just before the Navy’s last home football game at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium for the season. The Scouts returned to Elks Camp Barrett for a prepared hot dinner, by Elks volunteers. The dinner was followed by an evening bonfire with songs & skits before bedding down in the chilly night within the many, many tents in the fields and wooded campsites.

On Sunday, there was frost on the tents as the temperature dropped during the night into the 20s. The Elks of the Association served a hot breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage, hot biscuits, hot chocolate, fruit, juices, etc. Thereafter there was a non-denominational Sunday service at the scout-built Hillside Chapel at the Camp.

This weekend was made possible by the dedication of many Elks of the MD, DE & DC Association. Over [40] Elk volunteers came forward to prepare, serve and cleanup. Due to the early morning breakfasts, some had to arrive by 4 AM.
Many thanks to all those Elks that served to make the weekend possible...........
