Elks Camp Barrett
Hosts over 900 Boy Scouts
Elks Camp Barrett hosted over 930 Boy Scouts during a weekend in November. Boy Scouts from the Mid-Atlantic States and beyond descended upon the camp's 140+ acre rustic camping facility among high trees and deep ravines located within minutes of downtown Annapolis.
Friday, the Boy Scouts arrived and setup their tents for the weekend on numerous wooded sites and the athletic fields. A light dinner was made available. A cold front came through and dropped the temperature into the 30s.
On Saturday, after an early morning continental breakfast served by the Elks, the scouts traveled to the US Naval Academy for a guided tour of the yard. Thereafter the Elks served a tailgate lunch just before the Navy’s last home football game with Tulsa at the Navy-Marine Corps Stadium. The weather was crystal clear and cool. The Scouts returned to Camp for a fried chicken dinner served by the Elks followed by an evening bonfire and skits. Saturday night the temperature dipped into the 20s.
On Sunday, there was frost on the tents as the temperature dropped during the night into the 20s. The Elks of the Association served a hot breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage, hot biscuits, hot chocolate, fruit, juices, etc. Thereafter there was a non-denominational Sunday service at the scout-built Hillside Chapel at the Camp.
